Jamie B. Turner
Teaching Fellow in Philosophy
Trinity College Dublin
I am a Teaching Fellow in Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. I completed my Ph.D in Philosophy from the University of Birmingham (2022-2025) under the supervision of Martin Pickup, Sophia Vasalou, and Jon Hoover, sponsored by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
My philosophical research primarily focuses on questions and topics in the philosophy of religion, approached from the perspective of ideas and concepts in the Islamic tradition. This mainly involves recasting medieval Islamic philosophical ideas in the language of analytic philosophy and critically engaging them in light of contemporary philosophical thought. This research agenda aims to both revitalise the tradition of Islamic philosophy and to contribute to the more global turn in contemporary philosophy of religion. As I hope is apparent from my research output, I am deeply committed to genuine philosophical enquiry, as opposed to apologetics.
Alongside my teaching commitments at Trinity, I continue to serve as an instructor in philosophy and theology at more public facing institutes, such as the Academy of Divinity and Science and Lote Tree College. More recently, I was appointed to lead a module in Islamic Philosophy at AFSO (Afghan Female Student Outreach), an organisation aiming to provide an accredited, higher education for females in Afghanistan deprived of access by the current government.
