Teaching Fellow in Philosophy
Trinity College Dublin
I am a Teaching Fellow in Philosophy at the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Trinity College Dublin.
My research in philosophy focuses mainly on questions in the philosophy of religion approached from the perspective of ideas and concepts in the Islamic tradition. The research develops a new approach to the practice of Islamic philosophy today, by adopting the conceptual framework of analytic philosophy and drawing on insights in the Islamic tradition to develop novel theories in the philosophy of religion, and to critically evaluate existing ideas within the tradition. This primarily involves recasting medieval Islamic philosophical ideas into the contemporary language of analytic philosophy and taking seriously the philosophical problems that contemporary philosophers have raised about religion. My research agenda aims to both revitalise the tradition of Islamic philosophy and to contribute to the more global turn in discipline of philosophy of religion. As I hope is apparent from my research output, I am deeply committed to genuine philosophical enquiry, as opposed to mere apologetics.
Alongside my teaching commitments at Trinity, I continue to serve as an instructor in philosophy and theology at more public facing institutes, such as the Academy of Divinity and Science and Lote Tree College. More recently, I was appointed to lead a module in Islamic Philosophy at AFSO (Afghan Female Student Outreach), an organisation aiming to provide an accredited, higher education for females in Afghanistan deprived of access by the current government.
